Unusual "thing" on radio antenna
Hi all,
I recently won a Yupiteru MVT 7000 on eBay bidding, it came with a detachable antenna on a BNC connector. The antenna has this black thing on it and I am unsure as to what it is. See photos below for further details. Tom |

Re: unusual "thing" on radio antenna
It may be a loading coil to boost reception of a particular part of the spectrum, Or it could just be a thing to make it look a bit more snazzy!

Re: unusual "thing" on radio antenna
Maybe a centre loaded CB aerial if the original was lost. My similar radio does not have it.

Re: Unusual "thing" on radio antenna
Isn't it just a grip to use when extending or retracting the aerial?

Re: Unusual "thing" on radio antenna
An aerial with a centre loading coil (which can be shorted out by partly collapsing the middle section) could make sense as these units have coverage going well down into the HF range (I have an MVT-7000 owned from new, but it came with a standard BNC ended telescopic aerial really only suitable for VHF / UHF).
Aerials with centre loading coils like this were common on the non-UK versions of CB radio handhelds but the UK versions lacked them because centre loaded aerials were not allowed under the original UK CB regulations. (They are now). For any serious attempt at HF reception a long wire and possibly an SWL ATU or preselector would be advisable. The only thing the MVT-7000 does not have which the 7100 - as originally suggested to Tom - does, is SSB. |
