The intervalve transformer on this was very fragile, but I think there is at least one member of this forum who offers a transformer rewinding service. Alternatively, push-pull replacement transformers are not too difficult to find as long as you don't want an exact replacement. |

Hi, It did belong to a good friend of mine , he didn't want to spend much on the repairs, he has the case I think part of it was broken ,I need to find out the condition of the case .
If you have a dial that would be fantastic and a good start , cheers Mick. |

Re: Can you I.D the radio from the dial and knobs
Arrrr the PYE Baby Q. One of the first radios I bought at the Raynes Park Jumble Sale for 1/- around 1960. There are so many variants of it including a TRF version.'Reaction' marked on the scale suggests this is the version you have.
I have far too many of them but they were my 'first love'.. Is it worth repairing? None of this 'junk' is worth repairing. It's more a case of how much pleasure/satisfaction and fun you are you going to get from restoring it? The TRF version is the rare one and performs surprisingly well. Good luck with it if you get it together. regards, John. |

Re: Can you I.D the radio from the dial and knobs
This thread has answered a question I have had for years! I bought an Ekco U29 off eBay years ago, and one of the knobs was completely wrong, and it was one of the same type as in the first post, I had no idea what set it came from, and it’s languished in the box of spare knobs ever since.

Re: Can you I.D the radio from the dial and knobs
oops ! it was faulty anyway. this reaction control combines a resistor and capacitor , the resistor was o/c and the capacitor int s/c ,anyone got one faulty or not , possibly make a good one out of the two, Thank's Mick.

Re: Can you I.D the radio from the dial and knobs
I undid one screw and beyong! I did this with a double adaptor when I was 6! An early lesson learned that has stuck with me for the best part of 70 years. Good luck with it. Well worth a restoration and if you muck it up, it's only an old radio.. John.

Re: Can you I.D the radio from the dial and knobs? Identified as a Pye 808.
After re assembling the reaction control several times it was still intermittently shorting so I decided to modify it. I made new insulating spacers an old record sleeve was just the job,a template was made this enabled me to drill all the pieces accurately in one go, the original insulators were round and had to fit over a washer spacing the rotating vanes making assembly somewhat tricky. Good news it works after what must have two days in trying. Mick.
P.S. looking for a dial for this. |
