BVWS Bulletin has found its way as far north as Cumbria now, as mine also arrived today.

Re: Bvws / radiophile mags
My Bulletin came today and it is truly excellent print quality and content [eg the Red Round Ecko]. The accompanying BBC book, even better! Many thanks to members who put all this together. Some of the early BBC "Company" political shennanigans put MP's expenses in the shade. There is a fascinating chapter about all this buried within a G K Chesterton biography [can't remember title it's in the south]. Dave W

Re: Bvws / radiophile mags
I'd second that!
My bull came today, and the excellent BBC Book, together with the Bulletin, caused the postman to push the internal flap off the letter box! Each bulletin seems to be better than the last, if that's posible, and all the other goodies such as DVDs, CDROMs makes the BVWS real value for money. I can't imagine how many countless hours that BVWS Committee members and helpers put into this, for little thanks and no reward, other than the satisfaction of a job well done on behalf of the membership. Several new members have commented favourably on the welcome pack 'goody bag'! The list of items such as poyester and electrolytic caps and other stuff available to members seems to get longer with each issue , albeit minimum pack size of 50 per value the 8 values of poly film caps would mean an outlay of £179, and land me with 400 caps! I appreciate that they're sold singly at BVWS events, but not all members can get to such events. Maybe this something that could be looked at - says tens, 20s perhaps, as packs of 50 does rather put them out of bounds of all but the most avid restorers, though I do appreciate that smaller pack sizes would mean yet more work by volunteers in putting small orders together. Thanks guys. David |

However I think you have hit the nail on the head with the reason why it won't happen. The majority of the BVWS work is done by just three or four committee members and their partners, who volunteer a vast amount of time, often with no thanks from members. And appeals for further volunteers are generally unsuccessful. |

Re: Bvws / radiophile mags
I contacted Chas the other day on a different matter and the next issue of Radiophile came up in conversation. It is at the printers now, some delay due to the printers having taken on a massive printing job which they hope to clear this weekend - they are working Saturday and Sunday overtime! With luck, we should be getting Radiophile in the next week or two. In good time, one hopes, for the next Cowbit 'exposition' on 26th Sept.

Re: Bvws / radiophile mags
Hi All,
Just to answer David's question about the minimum order quantity of 50 capacitors; We can supply a lesser amount to anyone who asks, but the reason that 50 pieces was chosen is simply that this worked out to be the most economical number for the postage cost. This gives the best value for the purchaser. If you have 50 or 10 or 20 the postage will be the same! Graham will always oblige if you call him and ask for a different quantity by phone. I am glad you all like the Autumn Bulletin. The Christmas Bulletin is coming on very nicely. Mike...

Re: Bvws / radiophile mags
Thanks for the explanation Mike - pleased to hear that Graham Terry will oblige any BVWS member who is stuck. I wasn't whinging of course - as a member, I truly appreciate all the hard work - much of it done quietly behind the scense, by just a few stalwarts. It just seemed such a high minimum order level, especially for the less common values. Generallly, I attend enough BVWS events (NVCF, Lowton (now Golborne) etc, to be able to stock up as needs be, but not everyone can get to these events.
Glad to hear that the Christmas Bulletin is well underway. I especially liked the 'Hobbies Weekly' article in the Autumn Bulletin - it brought back happy memories of my paper round back in 1953, when I used to dawdle along reading it from cover to cover before popping it through some unsuspecting customer's letter box, well thumbed! As always, the articles in the bulletin were varied, well laid out and well illustrated. David. (BVWS member, and Radio Bygones). Last edited by Brian R Pateman; 31st Aug 2010 at 12:21 pm.
