On the move again!
Sorry for the short notice but this forum will be closing at some point this evening for moving to a new server. I will give as much notice as I can, but it may not be much.
I'll post more info in a bit... |

Re: On the move again!
Basically the forum is too server intensive for the reseller hosting account my employer is using, and the hosting company are threatening to close the whole reseller account if the load isn't reduced. They haven't given us much notice...
Therefore I, along with the organisation that helps towards the cost of hosting the forum along with their other hosting requirements, have made the decision to move the lot to a different hosting company. The cost is about the same, but on a much more powerful server with a UK based hosting company I have many years experience with. This move is being done this evening. This will also reduce the load on the reseller account to an acceptable amount, which means my employer doesn't have to make any changes to any other sites hosted on it. |

Re: On the move again!
A complete copy of the forum as of earlier this evening has now been transferred. I will be closing the forum here on the old server at 10:30pm to do a fresh database transfer and copy any recent attachments across. I will then open it on the new server and update the DNS.
Note that DNS propagation can take several hours (I have had no opportunity to tweak the time-to-live this time) so you may not get back in until the morning. |

Re: On the move again!
Thank you for your patience. We are now open again, and hopefully it won't take too long for the DNS to propagate and everyone to be back.
Any problems please post here. |

Re: On the move again!
Excellent! There seems to be 21 of us here currently (plus loads of search engine spiders). Who's Online?
The new hosting is with UK Dedicated. Their website is somewhat out of date but their servers aren't! Their support this evening with the website moves has been spot on too. |

Thanks Paul. It sounds like you achieved the short-notice transfer with aplomb!

Re: On the move again!
Working fine here, but other websites like BBC etc not working. Have you taken over the internet and destroyed everyone else?

Thanks for all the good work you guys do; I feel I should make some sort of contribution for your efforts - do you take Amazon gift-vouchers? |

Re: On the move again!
This site working fine but plenty of others aren't because my ISP (Plusnet) has a major DNS issue this morning. Must be a coincidence!

Re: On the move again!
Fine in Scotland. Thanks, Paul
Plusnet's just come back up for me. Odd having email but no internet. DNS problems would explain it, so thanks Richard... I was wondering what I'd done. David

Re: On the move again!
Nothing seems to have changed, brilliant. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Paul for all the unseen work and stress you must go through keeping this great forum on air, and to the moderators for keeping this forum smooth running.

Re: On the move again!
Normal service here in south Somerset. Having accessed the forum at 12:30 p.m., (Sept. 12th.), I hadn't noticed any changes then - and haven't since.
