Question NAD 5220 CD very low sound output

Hi everyone,
I am totally new here and a NAD fan and user since a very long time.

I have a NAD 5220 CD player (amongst other NAD stuff) recently acquired. Plugged it in and got
1 - Extremely bad and distorted sound. Stopped the CD, looked at it but clean. Cleaned the laser head.
2 - Inserted another CD and got very good sound.
3 - Put the 5220 away for the night and next morning (yesterday) put another CD in and got an extremely low sound output. Checked the AMP (JVC A-S3) all OK there. Just in case tried my other AMP NAD 3020, no better. I had to turn the volume almost totally max to hear a good sound.

I am not at all a technician but I know how to use a soldering if necessary.

Anyone has any idea about what could be the problem.

Thousands thanks in advance.
