Default Rexine Cleaning Advice

Hi there,
New to the hobby so guidance needed please people.
Best way to clean and restore Rexine?
Firstly, heavily soiled instructions then ideas for general cleaning/finishing?
Thanks
Duke

Hi Duke and welcome.
I have found liquid detergent meant for the washing machine very effective.
Dilute it with hot water and use a small scrubbing brush keep wiping away excess water with a cloth.
for lighter staining foam cleaner like Ambersil works well.
Kind regards RT

I use Servisol foam cleanser in a spray can. Very effective and importantly, safe on most surfaces.

For the Rexine-like bits on various car-boot-sale Roberts portables I've used "Autoglym Vinyl And Rubber Care"; I bought it for cleaning car interior trim but it has worked well to lift away accretions of gunge from the texturings of both black and tan pseudoleather, leaving a non-shiny finish once 'buffed up'.

I find a toothbrush is a good tool for working these kind of cleaners into the embossed patterning to remove deep-down-dirt - used with a circular motion it's a lot more-effective than any sort of cloths.

I have used truckwash diluted 3-1 which is very strong or industrial chefs detergent and a toothbrush to lift out grime, rinsed well then followed by something like armour all or cockpit shine to seal the spotless surface.

Shoe creams such as Meltonian are good for restoring faded rexine.

This is what I use, it even seems to lift splashes of emulsion paint as well as deeply ingrained grime.

I recently cleaned a filthy nicotine stained Perdio record player, it came up like new, once dry, I use a neutral shoe wax to bring back the lustre of the rexine.

Mould & mildew spray applied with an old toothbrush will de-gunge very well, be aware this stuff usually has a bleach like smell. The one I use has hydrogen peroxide (very dilute) as one of it's active ingredients. Do a small patch at a time, dry thoroughly then finally apply a neutral polish/wax of your choice. Any mentioned above will work. As others have said, try a test patch first.

I use window cleaning spray. It is a light, non foaming detergent that I have found does not remove the colour. Great on dial plates as well.

For finishing, I use appropriate colour shoe polish if colour restoration is needed, and finish off with a nice wax.

I recognise that excellent advice and the name!
Good evening Adrian! Lovely for me to meet you on here!
How’s my “Little Lady” (as it’s affectionately known by my family) coming along?

Bathroom foam cleaner, but keep it away from paint and chromed effect "plastic" fittings.
Its OK on real chrome and brass.

Adrian! The window cleaner method and light shoe balsam wax method is absolutely superb! I tried it today and the rexine responded very well indeed, in fact it came up like new without any discolouration.
Thank you and of course everyone for their great tips and advice.
Great site this.

Meths will work wonders on removing splashes of modern emulsion paint.
