Hi PJL. The switch isn’t completely open, there is a few Meg of resistance there, so hopefully it’s just oxidation or soot from arcing.

I have successfully “ bonked” switches by forcing them to switch a heavier resistive load such as a 150 watt incandescent lamp.

The actual switch on current surge of a 150W incandescent lamp is probably >10× its nominal running current so the cruddy contacts will get a serious kick to clear the crap.

Hi gang. Had a good go at the “Toaster” on Saturday.
It now plays( although not very well at present) on both wavebands. It’s quieter than I would have expected and rather hard of hearing. LW works over the entire band but MW conks out about half way along. One or more low emission valves I suspect.
As suspected the smoothing cap was very low on one half and totally open on the other. The only replacement I had that would fit in the clip is slightly longer, and is wire ended but works very well. The on-off switch worked after being forced to switch a 100w incandescent bulb. All waxies and Hunts mouldseals replaced and a couple of out of tolerance resistors.

Hello,

A few years back I found some discrepancies between a Toaster I was working on, and the service sheets. I did a post on the forum a few years back about these discrepancies and the Late Mike Edwards noted it for his records.

I have the late Mike Edwards MW/SW FB15T Toaster, which sits proudly on my Black PYE ‘Black Box’ in the lounge!

One day I’ll get a FB10FM FM Toaster, however, the rarity of which, must rival that of hens’ teeth.

It also needed a replacement dial lamp(which moves with the tuning indicator, a nice touch), and an NOS 6X5GT as the original was extremely tired.

I had two, one in cream and the other in pale blue. Long gone.
