I can't remember what English guttering is like but French guttering has the front rolled up into a nice decorative tube. They simulate this with plastic guttering as well:

Maybe you can get this sort in England. Then put up plastic guttering. You can run a wire through the tube on the front and it won't even get wet when it rains.
