Default H aerial

Hi, I think this should go here. Anyway, I would like to make a H aerial but does anyone know what type of metal I should use for the Dipole and the reflector?

Within reason, anything will do. Light gauge aluminium tubing about 10mm or 3/8" OD would do nicely and be similar to the original (if it's a band 1 TV type you're considering).

Band I aerials here are generally made of aluminium tube about 10mm diameter as Herald has suggested. The last one I looked at here had a dowel inside the tube, presumably for a bit of physical strength in strong winds etc.

I'm not sure of exact details but seem to recall reading that some aerials had string inserted inside the rods to damp down wind vibration.

very true. a cord or similar in the tubes, secured at the ends will help a great deal.

I'm not sure how critical this will be, but don't forget that the length for resonance depends to a small extent on diameter, so if you are following a design then thinner elements need to be slightly longer.
