I have been to the Braehead rallies many times, but not the Galashiels yet. Maybe see you in one of the rallies next year. 73 de Jay, GM0MOP Last edited by ORAWA01; 22nd Dec 2019 at 1:37 pm. |

Let's not have a discussion about the RSGB here.
Back on topic please.

Yes good idea. Back on topic.
On transceiver kits I think the best bet these days is the QCX. A lot of transceiver for your money there https://www.qrp-labs.com/qcx.html . I just bought their 50W PA to go with mine for some QRO action. |

That 50W pa is astonishing value for money. Let me know how you get on with it.

Re: Forgotten project - Sudden GQRP 40m receiver
Totally agree. Especially with the solid state full QSK. I was just about to get mugged for the Elecraft KPA100 and this popped up!
It is somewhere between Turkey and here at the moment. I will post a new thread on it. I ordered another QCX as well (my filth built so far - mostly for other people) so I will probably build that first and do a thread on both that and the amplifier. |

Re: Forgotten project - Sudden GQRP 40m receiver
Managed to find a spare LC3 (26ULC) in the parts draws, and soldered it on. It works OK. Just decided to complete the kit with the rest of the panels sealed off.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxayONDoSGg Thank you all for all the info, advice and support for this thread. Will go for another project. But must work on the restoration of the old transceivers first. |

Re: Forgotten project - Sudden GQRP 40m receiver
Yeah they’re quite remarkable receivers considering the lack of parts. I added a 600Hz switchable audio filter to mine which cut the noise off. Well it started with 741 opamps and added more noise but was fixed later by using different ones. I can’t remember what I put in it.
Schematic was from ARRL handbook. |

Re: Forgotten project - Sudden GQRP 40m receiver
Yes, quite like this Sudden 40 kit RX. Very sensitive and nice audio.
Handy to do quick check on the band condition. I am thinking of adding another variable cap. to make Band Spread function. Tonight 40m band was in good shape, and was good fun RXing with the Sudden rig. Also adding SEND button to mute when using it in real QSO with CW qrp transmitter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZJWX-rtosQ |
