Vintage Eastlight "Star" record cabinet, any info?
Apologies if this is in the wrong place, please move if appropriate.
I acquired this "Star" record cabinet by Eastlight, which appears to be 1930s vintage but can find very little information online apart from a few old "for sale" ads also suggesting 1930s. Does anyone know anything about these? There are some interesting labels inside suggesting that records were rare and precious, mostly from HMV and Columbia, and the owner liked to keep them well organised. It look like it would be suitable as a stand for a gramophone or to sit alongside an big old radiogram, perhaps it would be useful to someone with an interest in those, in which case I will be willing to offer it here for sale. I was planning to use it for general storage, but if useful to a fellow enthusiast that would be a waste! Thanks in advance for any help... Regards, Andy |

Re: Vintage Eastlight "Star" record cabinet, any info?
Somewhere around 1930 would be my guess, and probably produced with minimal change over a number of years. It may have supported a table gramophone - those along with console models fell sharply from favour in the late '20s, displaced by radiograms and portables. Or a modest table radiogram could have sat on it, or a "plus-a-gram" style turntable plugged into a table or console radio.
I think I've seen a similar style of East-Light logo on old lever arch files, so most likely there's at least continuity of the brand name to its present use on office stationery supplies. Paul |
