Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
It's rather nice when someone adds a thank-you to that thread, or sends a PM, and it's personal which makes it special. No anonymous click-counter can approach it.
Too much of the human race's time is spent in ranking things, usually completely unnecessarily. Words don't exist to express how little I care about the contents and order of all those 'top 100' web pages. Let's just get on with playing with radios (and tellies, and oscilloscopes, and hifi and.....) David

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
If this is implemented can there be a setting whereby I can't see it?

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
May I add my support for the status quo, please. Such a facility as discussed here seems out of place in a forum such as this - which is intended to discuss technical issues. I don't see how "liking" a post helps to achieve this.
Although I don't subscribe to the likes (no pun intended) of Facebook etc, I am a member of a (non-technical) forum that has such a feature (though they're called "loves" there), and I can't even see that they serve much useful purpose there.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
May I add my 'No Thank You' to the list.
It’s hard to say which post I like best, but Paul’s comment in post 6 would have to be near the top. Stuart

Not a feature I would be interested in, or use.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
I allways thank folks for reply in the original post of mine as I am sure many others do and feel that is the way to keep to also I think more personal than clicking "like".Plus of course the thank you thread exists.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
I am not in favour of this passive option.
Observing other forums with this feature often highlights divisiveness within a group and ultimately does not serve any useful purpose. Far better to comment constructively within the thread or via PM than have a thousand anonymous 'likes'. Rich

I am not a very active member of this forum, but I think such a feature would be a big negative for me

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
A definite no from me as well, I have never seen the point of 'likes' and 'friends' and steer well clear of Facebook. If you appreciate somebody's posting why not just reply to the thread and say so so everybody can see it.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
Let me disagree with these posters.
I use a general electronics forum which has correspondents from all over the world except Russia and Japan. I tick the 'like' when there is a post which gives good information, is concise and is technically correct. Some humour is a help. A 'like' is a way of appreciating a contribution without extending the thread and gives some thanks for effort expended. There is no tendency to 'like' mates and few windbags. Please press the dislike button. |

Hi Gents, I too would be against this.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
If you wish to declare your approval (or possibly otherwise) of a post, then send that poster a P.M. with your comment. That way the posts in the thread don't get cluttered with such remarks.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
I'm only a young diode but tend to agree with those of you with more electrodes who say that the best way to express appreciation of a contribution is to continue the conversation, perhaps explaining why the information was useful or of interest to you.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
Does everything have to have a "like" or "favourite" button ?
I for one would like to think this forum was more than just throwaway social media. It's about rescuing sets from seemingly impossible states, devising creative replacements for parts no longer available, sharing knowledge and more. It's not about how many "likes" your posts get.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
Hi,
Just found this thread – I dont post frequently but my vote is to keep things as they are. Also I am not the most technical or the most confident of people and the thought of having dislikes which will be the implied, if not stated, negative of likes applied to any comment or posting I make would probably make me think twice before posting at all. I've just noticed the Rate Thread button.

Re: A way of acknowledging a good post - a 'like' button
I've just looked at the Rate Thread button for the first time (I never said I was observant). So, does that mean there already exists the ability to rate a thread? If so, I would hate to see what others thought of some of my old posts!
