Default TEAC LP-R550 USB Tape Player Troubleshoot

Hello everyone.

I'm new to this forum. I have never repaired a cassette player before so I was hoping you guys could help me out.

I bought the now-discontinued Teac LP-R550 USB a few years ago, which is a combo 4-in-1 vinyl/cd/tape/radio player. Everything worked perfectly until I started having tape problems.

It started with an annoying "tic-tic-tic" noise when I played a tape but the audio was still fine.

Then I started having pitch problems, with the pitch quickly going up and down.

Then the player started "eating" the tapes.

I dismantled the tape section of the system and noticed that the belts weren't turning. I browsed some DIY videos and I got the belts to turn again, except that the spools themselves don't turn. So if you press play without any cassette, the belts turn fine but the spools don't do anything. But if you put a cassette and you press play, the belts turn, only 1 spool turns, the audio plays for 2 seconds and the player starts eating the tape.

Do you have any idea how I can fix this?

Thank you!

Are the belts tight enough? If not, they should be replaced. How did you get them to turn anyway?
