Default 1st I.F. on Ekco PB179

Has anyone got information on the 1st I.F. of this radio, I am a little confused on how the slugs are adjusted, at the moment the slugs appear to be the wrong way round in the coils that are housed within the can, and it is just impossible to get to them to check the adjustment, I did wonder if the I.F. coil had been removed at some stage and put back in the wrong position, can someone verify this.

Best wishes

Ken

Are the slugs visible through the holes that are shown indicated by the arrows in the chassis layout on the Trader sheet?

According to the Trader sheet the pri and sec coils are at right angles to each other.

I've never worked on one of these.

Lawrence.

Slugs are visible but as you will see with the next three pictures it shows the slot in the slug is not visible, and yes I agree the primary and sec are at 90 deg to each other.

Probably have to strip out the transformer to find out what's what.

Good luck whicheverways.

Do the IF's actually need adjusting, they seldom do. Best left alone unless they have been moved before. I have repaired valve radios, and the occasional TV, and have never touched the tuned circuits.

Hi folks

I just wanted to make sure the I.F.'s were peaked up, I managed to peak the second I.F. as the cores were in the right way round, despite the fact that I get a reasonable o/p of volume on BBC Essex after changing the variable Mu I.F. amplifier valve (used a AC/VP2) but if the cores in the 1st I.F. are the wrong way round and the coil is wired correctly (I assume so) how did the manufacturer Ekco ever adjust it in the first place I wonder.

Perhaps other members have an opinion please as well.

Best wishes

Ken

Any signs of the cores being sheared?

Lawrence.
