I did try the metal food can trick to no avail, mu metal is just so expensive so I will not bother unless I find a piece as scrap, thanks cheerfulcharlie. The cable run from the head to the preamp is really long, about 15 inches by the way.

Problem solved.
Under the pre-amp pcb lies a thin aluminium screening sheet. That was not adequate. Mu metal is very expensive. I found an old crushed organ pipe with walls a good 1mm thick. This was 80% lead. Cut and hammered a 5 x 10" sheet, fixed this as the pcb screen and earthed it to the pre-amp earth. Works great. |
