Sanyo RD 220 drive belt issues
Hi first of all let me apologise in advance if I get the names of any parts wrong. I'm new to the vintage audio game...
My tape deck is a 220, which wouldn't play when I bought it. Took it apart and the belt connecting the drive shaft to what I assume is a fly wheel was off. I reattached it but it keeps coming off immediately as soon as I press play. It keeps sliding off the barrel-shaped shaft, either to the left of right. There are no lips/flanges on the flywheel or the drive shaft where the belt sits, so there is nothing to stop it sliding off. The belt does not feel stretched and is not particularly slack when connected up. Any ideas? Do I just need a new belt? I'm just wondering why they don't just put lips on these things...! Thanks in advance! |

Re: Sanyo RD 220 drive belt issues
I have fixed a few of these, very popular in their day (circa 1983). Slipping off repeatedly is a sure sign of a bad belt. You need to replace that flat belt. Unfortunately I don't have a note of the dimensions, perhaps buying a mixed belt pack off ebay would be simplest. Also check the motor's rubber mounts aren't missing or perished.
