Default Beautiful Music on the web

Click HERE for one of the best US 'Beautiful Music' stations around. It runs 24/7. A re-creation of WJIB-FM. It's based in Boston.

I get my regular fix via the Simple Radio app on my phone and piped through the SSTran pantry transmitter.

This is background music like air-conditioning. Just the thing to have playing in your 70's land-barge as you go cruising, that is if you haven't already got your own private elevator!

I find a session always leaves me in good spirits.

Great site Steve thanks for posting - all I need now is the Test Card.

Yes, I like that. You should be able to download a test card to go with it.

That's unusual. Most US based services that use geolocking block the UK.

Latterly, my feed has been suffering for short interruptions every couple of minutes or so. The station may have been referring to this when they broadcast an apology a couple of days ago.

I think this sort of thing used to be more associated with a caching issue - a 'buffer underrun'.

I've had buffering issues and complete loss of the station when listening directly from the feed on the website, (I am on 200mb connection) and although the stations own site makes no mention of it that I can see, I tried as a search in tune-in and it found it stright away. The quality is better as well.

Regards

Terry

Thanks for this Steve.
I'm liking the music, good to have in the background whilst tinkering.

Cheers

Many thanks Steve for posting this.

Most enjoyable. I often listen to Serenade Radio but this is a relaxing alternative option (especially in current times).

In my younger years I wouldn't have been caught dead listening to anything like this. What happened I wonder?

Well, Gerry Wells used to talk of 'music for grown-ups'. I have to admit though that for me such 'elevator music' always seemed deliciously uncool... the ultimate rebellion against the rock-loving conformity of youth. Anyway, the melodies also often 'make the heart sing' and no apologies for that!

For a brief period at the end of the last century such music became deeply-cool again (usually described as 'Lounge' or "Loungecore"). see

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lounge_music#Resurgence

Mantovani, James Last, Perry Como, Bert Kaempfert - all the stuff I remember my parents playing.

[Exit stage right, looking online for a decent rendition of "The Girl from Ipanema"]

I had a phase of collecting library music, mostly the full versions of TV themes.

The listener count of niche internet radio stations is often surprisingly small - in two figures - I used to have a bookmark that led to all the data. I think it came from here - has anyone else got it? It would be interesting to see the typical figure for Jib on the Web, which only purports to be a local station for the Boston area.

There's a general listing of 'Beautiful Music' stations at www.ezradio.info - Click the online stations tab.

Does it include one for pre-war dance bands?

Hi Colin. Radio Dismuke? http://radiodismuke.com/

Though that station seems to stop after 1935. I would like to know of a station specialising in the following decade: 1935-1945, with the accent on 'sweet' rather than 'swing'. Any suggestions?

I thought I'd give it a try, it's all rather nice and relaxing and the sound quality is good. but I couldn't have it on for too long.....I'd probably nod off!
