Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Hi Martin,
South Africa must have many vintage Tek scopes in hiding. Geographically, South Africa was instrumental in the 60's US space program and also invested in local research and development. I'm convinced one will find me before I resort to importing. I hate to think of the costs involved in shipping a 35Kg beast! I just hope they did not end up in the dump, lost forever. Cheers Renato |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Sorry, this is my fault.
I've always known Tektronix as Tek. Guess I had this drilled into my head along the way and stuck. |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
hello Renato,
at first of all, ask the university, scool of electronic engineering. The downstair rooms of university is the hottest area to find an old Tek The most of the very large Tekscopes we get here in germany for collecting comes from TU (technical university), from military and aerospace industry, and from great labs. They have the largest and biggest scopes there, sometimes equipped with Camera and blue phosphor screens (I love P7). Also there are the best cared scopes, mostly without any damages. greetings Martin picture: 555 P7 Last edited by 6AL5W-Martin; 25th Sep 2011 at 9:01 pm. |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
After exhausting my usual arsenal of tricks, I'm convinced the Tek room heater will find me. It better, since I've already made space. I weep at the many missed opportunities.

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Hi.
I am continuing to post information on my collection as I work my way through restoring items to working order. I hope what I am doing provides inspiration to others, I know that the feedback I get helps me to stay on top of my game! So far the Triumph 830 Wobbulator has attracted the most interest. Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
As an MoD electonics student in the 60s we were shown a film about the formation of Tektronix. They started by writing down the spec for a scope that would well exceed anything in those days. The first of many problems was the CRT as there was nothing available to meet their spec. Their solution was to design and build their own and so the story went on through all aspects of the design. They were a one product company in those days and very focussed on being the best. HP were very good at RF test gear but scopes were less popular.

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Good evening gentlemen,
Well, this Tek has only one tube but a Tektronix it is and (Martin) I am getting closer to that "room heater". This beauty belonged to a service engineer for our local national TV broadcastor and has seem some external abuse but as we all know, things where built to last and this Tek 2445 has found a good home. So far so good with repairs, nothing major but I'm having difficulty finding a new suitable blue filter, the original is badly scratched. John, I have a Gould OS250A that triggers when told. Whatever you chaps did at Gould was done right. Well done. We now have a good source if any of these need repair. Bobgreen, My primary scope remains HP, some years younger than my others but I love them all. Cheers chaps |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
That's a fine scope you have there, with frequency readout
I have also news: A second 515A, I got it, defect, without case ! "for parts" no, not for parts. This old Tek got a new case, a lot of work I have done there. See here the hardcore version of Tek restoration a new 6DJ8 in time base a new C in HV there was no fan... I found the original tek fan in the bay, so a new fan also. both covers, made from aluminium 1,5mm a complete filter frame, made from alumunium 3mm 2x filter mesh, made from stainless steel mesh 1 filter foam. It's healthy now, 515A, 33 tubes, 20kg. Now the case parts are gone to a special company for burn in powder painting, "Tek blue"... greetings Martin Last edited by 6AL5W-Martin; 25th Nov 2011 at 5:30 pm. |

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Mine is a Telequipment (almost Tek) D54 dual trace 10MHz all solid state apart from the CRT which I picked up for a song on eBay. All works well with a couple of x1/x10 probes from China. Sig Gen is an Advance Type E, same story, but uses bottles including an EF50 in the starring role.

Great choice! The 310A is built like the rest of that period and is the cutest Tek of all.

Re: Oscilloscope Collection / Junky
Yes, we all love scopes! As a lad I built my own based on a WWII indicator with a 3" CRT and a thyratron timebase(T41: I was obsessed by thyratons as an early age). OK for audio waveform monitoring in those days. Later I had a Roband (very rare - even when new!) but that died in a 'friends' damp cellar together with my Airmec sig gen. Today I have a Telequipment D54 which does me very well.

Oh dear. I knew that there would be a thread here on this topic.
The attached is a moderately out-of-date list of my equipment, most of it Tek, but also HP and GR. Craig |
