Re: Fidelity RG35 radiogram running too fast.
Yes that is a puzzle, you say it’s working for now , let’s hope the “fault” doesn’t reappear.

Glad you came back to the thread for a conformation on the original fault and how bad it actually was. It's certainly a bit of a mystery, but you would think that there must be a simple answer as to why sanding the wheel as it spun, cured the fault.

Re: Fidelity RG35 radiogram running too fast.
I doubt if sanding the idler had any effect at all. Just taking off the platter and maybe pulling the idler away from the stepped spindle and then back again was all that was needed.

Re: Fidelity RG35 radiogram running too fast.
It's a strange one, Edward. It seems he had to sand the idler several times before it actually came down to the correct speed. He says it was the same on all speeds, so in that case the question that I would ask is was it too fast on 78rpm, as beyond that pulley step there's nowhere else to go if it really was riding on the wrong step.

Re: Fidelity RG35 radiogram running too fast.
I've had several BSR decks that have slightly sticky stepping mechs where the grease/oil has caused it to not cleanly change speed and the idler rests between steps. It almost always runs on the faster step. Just taking the mech apart and playing with it will sometimes get it working but the fault will return. It needs a careful strip and clean then re-grease to work smoothly. Unless the idler is hard and slippery - sanding will not make any difference.
