If you draw a blank PM me and I'll try to draw around mine onto a piece of A3 or something - maybe you could make one.

How's your 'fingers' on the motor tuner? Mine are all snapped off!

If you could trace your panel Mark and send it to me i'll make him one for the cost of postage and hardboard.

It helps me as well as i make reproduction panels and i'm trying to grow an inventory.

Hi Mark and Neil, Many thanks for your kind offer. PM sent.
The PB189 has been "got at" but the motor and disk appear to be in good order. It had a motley selection of valves fitted including KT41 instead of PenA4, MH4 instead of 354V, and FC4 instead of TH4A. These would probably have worked but I've fitted better replacements. Didn't have a TH4A so used TH4B as a bit closer match than an FC4. Also the DW4/350 rectifier dropped to 25% / 30% on soak test so I've fitted a decent RV120/350 instead. Lots of the caps had been changed many of inappropriate types, values and voltage ratings. The Phantom is alive and well!

Have you got a cnc router? Cutting the cooling slots will be a right pain in the hole, though I've seen clever manual jigs for repetition routing on here.

I'm away for a bit next week, but I'll get on to this as soon as I have a little time one evening. I'll take a photo too so you have some idea of the lettering. Neil, PM me an address to post this to.

Vinrads - if you found the posts you mention, I'd be glad of the link, else I'll go a-digging myself for them

Yes i use a cnc Rounter, i use dyed board in either black or brown however the panels are plain with no text, i leave that bit to the restorer.
Also if any set has a mains dropper i apply a coating of flame retardent for peace of mind.

I'll message you my address now Mark

A much needed service Neil, as frequent requests on the forum for replacement backs have shown.

As a woodworking hobbyist, some time ago I made a router jig to enable me to make replacement backs using a hand-held router, but it's time consuming to set up the jig and cut the slots, as well as being messy and noisy. That said, it's the only practical DIY route open to hobbyists, and I've made eight different backs for my own sets. With time, skill and patience it's possible to make acceptable backs, but the accuracy attained by such techniques and the time expended can't compare to using professional equipment such as yours, as is illustrated in the following posts of excellent backs for the Wartime Civilian Receiver and DAC90:

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=137921

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=136961

I think you were going to put a post on the 'Services Offered' section of the forum, which would be most helpful. Also, if there are outlines of backs that you might wish to have, I'm sure that members will be able to help by doing tracings of actual backs onto paper - sets such as the round Ekcos and the Philco '444'.

Best wishes in your endeavours.

Thanks for the comments, i've had a lot of help from forum members with drawings and the best method i've found is the method David G4EBT suggests, using the rubbing method with tracing paper and charcoal give good results, if anyone wants to send me rubbings of panels they would be most welcome.

Cheers Neil

Neil,
When I get back I'll send you a list of backs I have. If any are of use I'll send rubbings. I am going to do a tracing for member Freya of the HMV motor tuned 1200. Its a big beast with a hatch.

OK (rubs hands in sinister manner), who'd like to come up and see my rubbings?

Neil, I'll PM you but for reference for others - can you handle these folded, or do I need to find a tube and roll it? I'd prefer the former if you can deal with it.
cheers
Mark

Folded is fine, however I'm trying a new idea to make it easier for people to send images of panels.

I think if i had a picture of the back of a radio taken square on and the dimensions width and height of the panel i should be able to make a copy from that.

This would make it so much easier for people to send images without having to remove the back from the radio.

Will start a new thread on the subject after I've done some more experimentation with panels.

Cheers Neil

Hi Neil,

I found this one on the Web previously but unfortunately it isn't perfectly square, but close. Hope it helps. Cheers, Jerry.

Photos attached.

Rubbing, with all sorts of notes on it on fasteners, flap hinge etc, in the post next week.
cheers
