Default Facebook old CRT's

Nothing to do with me and to far away for me in Scotland, but wonder if these old Cossor tubes would be of use to anyone?

One can only imagine the possible damage caused to the faces of the upright crts.I had to have a look though. It reminds me of the way woodworkers smoothing planes are displayed upright in "The Repair Shop" and similar programmes.Peter.

Taking into account the rarity of vintage CRTs, any scratch damage is not insurmountable.

Some plane users have a little standoff so they can put it down "flat".
Back on topic, definitely worth picking up, not posted!

I did ask him if he had any numbers on the tubes, the only one showing is 75K and I suspect there is two of them but the rest?

These are certainly interesting CRTs. I hesitate to offer this but if someone wants to buy them but the seller needs rapid disposal I may be able to help. The 75k is a 10" tube.

Some of you may have noticed a Facebook advert that Adrian posted in this thread selling pre-war CRTs located not far from me. I have given temporary storage to the four white screen television types but not the green screen radar types. These tubes are remnants from Michael Bennett-Levy's collection and the two radar tubes are described here.

I've been trying to contact the various small radar museums to let them know of these tubes (priced at £10 each) and came across this little snippet from here relating the burial of WWII equipment to the film "Hell Drivers" and thought it was rather interesting.

"The massive excavations led to a major spoil disposal exercise. Lorry loads of excavated materials
were transported to a site north of the downs, resulting in a journey down to Shoreham before turning back
along the Steyning road. It has been said that the drivers were paid by the load, and that some took the
risky short cut down a track to Beeding at the right angled turn in the Truleigh Hill road.
Some time later, in 1957, some scenes for the film Hell Drivers, starring Patrick McGoohan and
Stanley Baker, were shot on the roads and fields around Truleigh Hill. The plot for the film also involved a
situation where drivers paid by the lorry load were taking short cuts down the steep side of the hill. At one
point in the film, a truck goes over a quarry to the north of the Truleigh Hill road and catches fire. The
RAF radar staff on their way up in the morning spotted the truck roped up on the edge of the quarry, along
with other general activity, but it had all gone by the evening. It is to be wondered if there was any
connection between the two situations."

Well glad they are safe for the time, I did message the person asking for any tube numbers so I could post them on here, but after a few days never got a response.

Hi Adrian,

I was initially confused by the Dalkeith location but the penny dropped thinking about Michael Bennett-Levy's house at Monktonhall and I thought it might be his son or his widow who was selling them. I got no response either when contacting the Facebook seller but spotted that it was a general antiques saleroom who it turned out had bought a load of stuff from the Bennett-Levys. I bought one or two other items, a Ruhmkorff induction coil, and some lab voltage references. There is a large box of Leclanche cells and one or two other items still there.

The TV tubes are:

2 x 75K
1 x 108K
1 x MW22-16

They all have heater continuity and no evidence of whitened getters. Two forum members contacted me as a result of your thread but I think they may need to wait quite a while before they can receive them.

Peter.

Hi Peter

I would be interested in a 75K for my 902 (tube completely missing)

I also have a 916 with a duff tube pretty certain that's a 108K

I can get the tubes picked up but I appreciate there will be many others wishing to be served.

Cheers

Mike T

For those not familiar with the vast collection of the late Michael Bennett-Levy here he presents his view of television development.

I once visited his castle in Scotland and there was some seriously rare stuff there without a doubt.
Sadly Michael passed a few years ago.

The previous owner of their castle was another Edinburgh shop owner whose premises I often visited in the 1960s. Millers Wireless. There was often an H2S display or a Type 19 set in the window.

I am guessing as I drift a bit O/topic that the above shop was not related to Miller Bros in Doncaster?

Miller was always in the Edinburgh shop so I suspect no connection.

I forgot to mention that there is a scruffy Decca 1000 located at the same location probably available for very little money but I'm not offering to store it.
