"This video contains material from UMG who have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds"
So I guess some netbot scanned it and heard something it recognised as a commercial recording so it filed an automatic complaint with youtube/google David

Re: Soviet HI-FI
Hi
I am interested in those two large ICs in pic 2 of post #45. They're on the board resting on top of the front panel. The white one, probably ceramic appears to have a mica window so possibly a microcontroller with on board EPROM. Even more interesting, is the other large IC. That looks as if it has two windows. If so then that's the first time I've seen such an IC. Do double window EPROM types ICs exist I wonder? Regards Symon. |

Re: Soviet HI-FI
Now I've fixed the video, it works. The lage IC is the logic processor, the white one is the program storage. It covered with insulating tape because the glass core can empty by ultraviolet. The windows at the logic processor is for cooling.

Re: Soviet HI-FI
Answered my own question, some Russian IC's here - http://www.sovtube.com/4-ics and here - http://www.silirium.ru/ussr-1811.html
Watched the amp video, those blue film caps seem to be in every bit of gear you have. Also noted several BD139 sized transistors without heatsinks. Compared to an 80's Japanese amplifier, it's similar in that there'd been a move away from big powerfull amps, like those made by Pioneer to simple bare bones amps powered by chips. I was especially interested in what they used as output devices. An English version would be much appreciated, being English I don't do foreign languages, prefering to shout instead : ) jThat was a joke BTW. Why did they start building hifi in the 80's I wonder? There's no 70's era Soviet hifi is there, or if there is, not in the same quantity? Lastly, you look very young, how did you get into hifi and learn electronics? Andy.

To put Andy's comment into perspective, it is said that, when confronted by someone who does not speak their own language, the British believe that, if you shout loud enough, they will understand! Likewise, French speakers believe that, if you speak fast enough, they will understand! My knowledge of French is very poor and I recall being in a hotel in France many years ago and having problems understanding what the receptionist was saying to me. "Je ne comprend pas, répétez très lentement, s'il vous plaît", I said (I don't understand, please repeat very slowly) and she repeated it at double the speed she'd said it in the first place! I think it is fair to say that the proportion of of English speakers who spoke French and vice-versa used to be very similar - i.e.: very low, but the situation has changed in recent years. Whilst I've seen no evidence of any improvement amongst the British, the number of French speakers in both Northern France and Wallonia who speak good English has increased in leaps and bounds, to our shame. |

My parents bought a Radiotehnika 301M record player in the 80s. We didn't have R2R or cassette player but we did have several records and I played it a lot. I want to restore it someday. Not sure if it was considered HI-FI, but it sounded very well. This record player uses an IC as the front end pre-amplifier

Also, anyone have tried to use cutten VHS tape at the reel recorder? I did. And Olymp record it much better, than Revox A/B77.

Re: Soviet HI-FI
Thanks for the explanation Terry.
It is and the other deckss you've shown us are quite natty looking DromkaTV. What sort of price do they go far in Russia and where would you find them; on Ebay Russia? Thanks for the heads up Miguel. You mean you cut down a VHS tape!? Tricky to say the least! Andy.
