No worries Steve, it is pretty amazing stuff. He's done a record too, though to get really good images on your scope you need a decent audio interface.

He uses some software called Purr Date to get the correct sines, cosine's and what have you to "draw" the pictures. That as well as a modular synth.

The music is pretty nice to listen to also. So you get a work out for your scope and your sound system as well.

What's not to like

I immediately fancied having a go for myself but then, apart from not having a synthesizer, quickly realised how many other things I haven't got the time to do!!

Cheers,
Steve.

I found it was well worth paying a few euros and downloading the high resolution files which displayed nicely on my Tek 435.

Hi
Just as a matter of interest has any one displayed a video on their scope?
Many years ago I fed into the z input output from video camera etc. I worked just!

Certainly in the field of Narrow Band Television (see NBTV Forum) there are plenty of examples of displaying video on an oscilloscope, using the "Z" input to modulate the signal.

Yes, I did this on my Tektronix 535A (all 60+ valves of it). It has two timebases, so one served as the horizontal scan in the usual way while the sawtooth output from the other went to the Y input for vertical scan. I think the Y amplifier had to have its 'invert' switch engaged to get the picture the right way up. Video input went to a transistor inverter to feed the Z input, and also to the trigger inputs of the two timebases which were carefully adjusted to lock to the sync pulses.

It worked surprisingly well but was fairly dim, even with the 10kV or so EHT of the Tek. I guess scope tubes are optimised for fineness of spot and speed and precision of deflection rather than ultimate brightness.

Thanks Dave.
Only used scope for servicing, but when the chargehand was not looking we used to try all sorts of things!
Happy days
Cheers
