Default Which Aurora do I need?

Thanks to Trevor I am now about to be the proud owner of two 819-line TV sets:

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...296#post252296

I'd very much like to use these, but I see that there is more than one 819-line Aurora available, and I don't want to get the wrong one, so any advice here appreciated.

Also, does anyone know where I can obtain service data for these sets please?

Thanks for any help.

Peter.

Personally if I had the spare cash I would go for the all in one Aurora Peter. You never know what's around the corner.

The exchange rate has picked up too.

Hi Peter.
David is correct about the World converter if you can afford it!
I have the full diagram for the Philips which I will send with the set, so far a blank on the Sonneclair though but I am sure our French friend will help here. There's no sound on the Sonneclair but its n o/c HT feed to the ECL86 so it needss to be done plus possibly the valve as well I've no time to do it though but an easy fix for you, its a really good set to work on.
Cheers

David - The cost is a problem too, but I also think that the world converter has modulator, is that right?

Which of the 819-line modulators do I actually need from Darryl's site please?

Tervor - Thanks, unfortunately I can't afford the world converter, but also I believe that has no modulator in it? Which of the 819-line modulators from Darryl's list is the right one for these sets? Many thanks for sending the circuit diagram, that will be very helpful. It shouldn't be too hard to locate the O/C HT feed to the ECL86, I'll ask for some help on here if I get stuck. Looking forward to using the sets, thanks for letting me have them.

I just had a look at Drryl's website and these are the thhee 819-line converters available:

SCRF819E PAL(625) to 819/25i with RF System E modulator

SCRF819F PAL(625) to 819/25i with RF System F modulator

SCRF819L PAL(625) to 819/25i with RF System L modulator

Any advice as to which one I need here would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Peter.

The world converter does have a modulator. You may be confusing it with the very first Aurora which had multiple standards but no modulator.

I don't know enough about the various 819 line systems to be able to say which version of the SCRF you should use.

Thanks Jeffrey, I was indeed confusing it with the first model, I didn't realise it had been updated.

I suspect the cost will make it prohibitive for me at present, so if anyone could advise me which of the 819-line converters I need I'd be grateful.

Hi Peter,
It depends on where the set was destined to be used. System E was used in France and many French territories as was System L . System F was used primarily in Belgium. You need to determine which RF System the set uses. You might be able to figure this out from the schematic.

The World Converter does have a built in modulator with 30 different RF Systems and over 800 channels preprogrammed, plus the user can create their own custom RF System. (edit: I see Jeff already answered this one)

Hi Peter.
Both the sets were for the Paris 819 line service, I am unsure though what system that is. Ask Wiwor on this forum he will know the answer, I believe both sets came from him.
Regards
Trevor

Hi Darryl just pipped me to the post but it looks like System "E"

I would agree Trevor. If they were for Paris service than System E would in order. Still it wouldn't be a bad idea to check with Wiwor.

Thanks for the input here, that's really helpful. It definitely looks like System E then.

Hello Darryl,

Are you still producing the Aurora converter? I have a PAL/NTSC conversion requirement but need a capable but compact converter. Please let me know if
it is possible to order?

Thanks,

James

I am still producing them, but don't want to go OT, so I'll send you an email.
