Default Volume Control

I have a 1968 "Swops Six Transistor" am radio. When it is turned on the strongest station is barely audible but almost immediately the volume starts rising until the volume is normal. Could it be the capacitors? Thanks

It could be virtually anything in the radio, the correct way is to do some logical fault finding.
Some photos and a circuit may get better advice from a member.

Swops was a Hong Kong brand so likely a soap dish radio (without seeing this example).

Clean the volume control and the earpiece socket for starters.

As always with these small transistor radios , I would replace all the electrolytic capacitors , for a start . Mick.
