Default They keep turning up! Pye T20.

I continue to be amazed at how old radios keep turning up from lofts.
Last Sunday at my local Car boot I picked up a Pye T20 (1936.) The seller who is there every week and does house clearances occasionally has interesting things; this was sitting on the damp grass awaiting a new home. He said it came from a loft; it must have been a tricky job getting it down as it weighs a ton!
A nice find, it's complete and no woodworm.

Purely out of interest, what did you pay for it?

The last 2 sets of this era that I have restored, both had failed HT windings on the mains transformer - a Pye QPAC (1937) and a Pye 834 (1938). The QPAC transformer was within a metal cage with the rectifier sticking out similar to yours. Best of luck with it. Cheers, Jerry

I paid £20, I suppose the going rate for a slightly ugly 1930's radio in unrestored condition.
Yes Jerry, fingers crossed for hoping the mains transformer is OK.

It's amazing what's being found right now.
A set I got was found in a skip. Now all restored and working.

It looks very like a late thirties Murphy radio.
Now I know where the mains power unit I have here came from. We tried to identify it's origins many years ago and drew a blank.
Similar appearance to the unit fitted in the Pye T20 except for the 110V/240V selector plug.

DFWB.

I have an identical unit in a Pye T10 but with a very poorly executed mains transformer replacement. The original transformer had some odd windings so the repairer had used 1/2 the LT centre tap for the lamps and the wrong rectifier LT voltage.
