Via another forum - a member revealed that 'Expert' had an enviable hi-fi pedigree - Expert Handmade Gramophones was set up by Ellis Michael Ginn when he left the company that bears his initials, E. M. G. I recall being astonished by the quality of sound produced by an EMG gramophone horn a few years ago.

Is this "Expert" the ancestor of the current "Expert Stylus Company" who are well known re-tippers of mm and mc cartridges?

Francis James wrote "The EMG Story" in 1998, which ties up most of the threads of a complex history. The Expert equipment of the 1950s was largely the work of David Phillips, whose approach to electronics was to take standard circuits and build them with the best available components. The Davey speakers are covered in the first edition of Burnett James' book "Hi Fi For Pleasure" - not to be confused with the later periodical of the same name.
