Default Mystery early '30s radio

Someone has sent me these pictures - to identify the set - but I can't!
The valve line up is AC/SG, AC/HL, AC/PEN and 43/1U.

Anybody know?

Thanks,

Steve

E.AR. if that is indeed a make. Noticed it on the speaker.

The transformer/loudspeaker looks very much like Earl Manufacturing Co:

The socket marked "Gram" rather than the American "Phonograph" or "Phono" suggests that the target market was the UK

Just to clarify...Earl Manufacturing Co. is in England (Peckham)

Presumably it was just the speaker assembly that was made by Earl of Peckham. For some reason the appearance and use of Mazda valves make me think it might be a Defiant (CWS) model. Just a feeling, nothing more definitive - sorry.

Thanks for the comments. The owner has written in with more information:

"The set is not American, as it has a 240 volt transformer in it. Rather curiously, the chassis is only secured to the case with three small wood screws at the back, leaving no attachment at the front. I suppose the control shafts keep it roughly secured! On the inside in chalk (rather faded) is 'JTB W8'. I have no idea what this means and the internet doesn't help. On the top of the tuner gang is a logo 'JB' - some sort of trade mark. But not one I have ever come across before. A photo is attached."

The tuning condenser was made by Jackson Bros which suggests a maker that sourced parts from various sources - just like the speaker. May not help much I suppose.
