Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
The fuses are smart, and synchronise their directivity with the instantaneous direction of the AC mais or signal (speaker fuses). However, if fitted the wrong way round this goes wrong and the allowable current direction opposes the instantaneous current direction and no current flows.
The owner then assumes that the fuse must have blown and throws it away, and becomes much poorer than need be by buying a replacement. All he needed to do was turn it round the right way and wait a little while for it to stop sulking (a common side-effect of smart items - they are often smarter than their owner) David

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Anyone spot that Dyson have launched a weird headphone/sound cancelling/filtered air mask thing?
Even that description sounds weird. The truth is even weirder https://www.dyson.co.uk/headphones/zone . It comes in at around £800 This really bizarre product has been reviewed now. And this is the best of the bunch https://youtu.be/tFdnCzfJPJ0 Enjoy! Craig

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Imagine if you spent £8,000 on a fuse.
Of course you didn't tell your other half. You get home from work one day "honey, the washing machine has broken down, it blew the fuse so l borrowed the one from your hi-fi and that blew too" l watched the YT advert for those headphones, l wonder how many they will sell. |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
The review said that this could be just a loss leader - you market something that is extremely bizarre. So bizarre that everyone is talking about it - Dyson, Dyson, Dyson. So the odd product that few will buy, and reviewers ridicule, is superb at advertising Dyson as a brand name.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Yes could be the same with those fuses. Nobody will buy the £8,000 one but it might get them on to the website where they'll buy a £70/£100 fuse that's for sale there.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
The latest development...
https://www.futureshop.co.uk/quantum...SAGEgIpKfD_BwE I am sure these style of adaptors are illegal, allowing a plug to be interested in an orientation other than the correct one. They are just a generic travel adaptor with their logo on it. |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Seems I linked to the cheapo end of these things. The £5,400 version is the real bees' knees. These have 'skin deep compensation technology' !? Sounds like anything goes in this industry...
https://www.futureshop.co.uk/quantum...-gold-uk-plug/ I feel like ordering one of these things then returning a generic travel adaptor for a refund and seeing if they notice the difference!!! |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
It sounds like the fruits of one of those old buzz word generating programmes though someone clicked up the word string length a notch.
Just wait until they come to grips with pre-famulated amulite technologies. David

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Quantum Science Technology. A quantum superposition whose wavefunction collapses to a null state as soon as you to measure it
It would be lovely to have enough money to buy one of these and tear it to bits, if only to discover that there is absolutely nothing in there. Craig

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Even simpler, finding nothing is what should happen. Looking at it is a form of measurement and that as said causes the quantum state yo collapse to null. So even it there was something there, the moment you look at it it vanishes. So function is indistinguishable from non-function.
The perfect scam. David

But just think, if it had worked, how clean and crease-free the washing would have been - all those stubborn stains gone...

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I check in here every now and then to see whats going on, and every time I struggle to work out whether this thread and the associated 'adverts' are practical jokes on me or real life phoolery. I looked back and found this:https://www.futureshop.co.uk/telluri...a-interconnect
I love the idea of 'carefully applied deoxIT"...yeah, Ive got a can of that too. A 96 hour burn in and 5 metres of life enhancing cable for the snip of the thick and of a grand a metre. I still cant believe real live people pay real live heed to this and then spend money. How to the vendors sleep at night? Do they believe it as well? MInd you, if those one way fuses were made by Tesla Valve Inc...

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Unfortunately those sockets with less than 16 or 17mm above the earth pin (where you can insert the plug upside-down) proliferate. So even if this rubbish cost £10 it would still want removing from sale.

I'd love to see a close up of the CE mark, and see if it conforms to the very closely defined standard

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Looking at the classes of equipment that needs to be CE marked, the two that the stupidly expensive gizmo must pass are:
The Low Voltage Directive (mains power is Low Voltage) Possibly the EMC directive, depending on what is in there. Quantum Science Audio is a Hong Kong company specialising mainly in stupidly expensive fuses. Like https://www.futureshop.co.uk/quantum...-uk-mains-fuse at £4,200 each But they seem to have branched out into mains and other connectors at similar stoopid prices. https://www.futureshop.co.uk/brands-...-science-audio

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Do you think we could start a trend to revive copper oxide rectifiers for audiophiles? No silicon in these puppies:

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Yes, and only Chilean copper would do apparently- i bet no-one was in a hurry to leak that information to Chile.
Note the introduction of entry level fuses at £50 to £200, and several intermediates in different colours, and with steadily rising prices. Gullibility data can thus be gathered to see just how far the price can be pushed. If no-one is buying at £2k give them some cheaper alternatives and see what happens. Don't for Christ's sake delete the top of the range item otherwise you acknowledge it's lack of credibility. Not subtle at all. Dave |
