GPO bell reclaimed by nature
I spotted this old GPO Bell no.67(?) about 12 feet up a tree being slowly consumed by the bark. One gong seems to have popped off it's mounting and the other is beginning to be engulfed by bark. The coils can be seen where part of the cover is missing.
I would imagine that this was part of a temporary installation for a building site office. The nearest building to this tree appears to be a late 70s early 80s structure so the bell has probably been there for about 30 years. I wonder if it would still work?!! Michael. |

Sorry, looks like I managed to miss off the picture. Sorry also for the quality, I used my mobile to take it.

Re: GPO bell reclaimed by nature
Stranger things have happened but the missing cover would have allowed the full force of the weather onto the coil which must have degraded the insulation to some extent.

We already twigged onto that. Wood-n't want to see this thread get the axe.

Re: GPO bell reclaimed by nature
It's obviously an early ecobell. Been hugging that tree for a bit too long, though.

Re: GPO bell reclaimed by nature
So, that's what they mean when they refer to a trunk call.
(Sorry) I too would doubt its functionality. Pity someone didn't rescue it when building work was completed. Especially as one of the gongs "fell" off However, I believe there is something like this in use at Johns Lee Wood on one of the cabins? I'll have to remember my camera if I go up there again. Brian |
