Default Akai 1721L

I bought an Akai 1721L today in very good condition. BUT when you use the fast forward and reverse the left hand tape just doesn't stop, like the brake is off, so tape everywhere.
Before i take the front off is there anything i can do?
The 1721L seems hardly used.................Thanks Alex

Take the front off Alex, it will be quite apparent when you have removed same, usual trouble , thick grease , clean it off & lightly lubricate the levers.

Start from here before you get too involved.
