Thorens TD280 motor drive
I've just had a look at a Thorens deck which has a "juddering" motor when started, and only runs whenthe platter is given a nudge. Is this indcative of the control electronics requiring some attention? There do appear to be a few electrolytics in the drive chain.

Re: Thorens TD280 motor drive
Hi John,
This site has all the manuals, based on those you can check out the electronics: https://www.vinylengine.com/library/thorens/td280.shtml Probably a cleaning/lubing would not hurt either. Regards, Peter |

Re: Thorens TD280 motor drive
Hi John, I have a Thorens TD150 Mk ii and it does exactly the same thing, particularly after fitting a new belt. Sometimes it helps to clean the drive pulley and the platter drive surface with alcohol or meths to remove any sticky film that might have accumulated over the years. Be careful not to get solvent on the Perspex lid. I doubt whether the capacitors are at fault. Cheers, Jerry

Re: Thorens TD280 motor drive
Seems to be a common problem . They appear to use a 24 pole motor and electronics. See here: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.p...roblem.785621/
