I would also like to endorse the comments regarding David’s synopsis. I think it would be fair to say that a project such as the Pioneer is not really one for a beginner. When tackling valve equipment it is possible to carry out pre mains checks, reform electrolytic capacitors and replace any suspect components before applying the mains via a variac or lamp limiter. With transistor equipment the latter options are not available so I’m wondering if any precautions can be made before applying mains power? (should I encounter another transistor amplifier in the future)
