Radio Sale Assistance
Good Afternoon All,
I am hoping someone here can be of assistance to myself; I am in the unfortunate position that earlier this year my father passed away, leaving us with the onerous task now to begin to clear his extensive collection of vintage radio and spares. I believe there is a significant value locked up in a few of the sets and test equipment. Much of it I believe is military, army, navy or air-force. He had a very extensive collection of spare valves and parts for many of the sets, many of which he had restored from non-working to operational to a very high standard. Unfortunately, although he used email and the web extensively he never seemed to use forums such as this one. To give a taster here is a list of some larger bits of equipment that are immediately identifiable by a novice (i.e. me using visible marks, and sending photos to one contact I do have). I would estimate there are 3 times or more receivers in his shack, and more in the loft. AR88 (3 of these) R220 RA17 RA 1-17 MA 218 KW 2000E (transmitter receiver) TF 144 H (test equipment) HRO ( receiver) R216 (VHF receiver) R210 ( HFreceiver) Radivet type 211 (test equipment) Eddystone 830 CT 501 (test equipment) Hallicraft SX 28 R 3901A E 52 b-1 Is anyone here willing to offer impartial advice on the value of these sets and related spares? many thanks in advance, Andy |

Re: Radio Sale Assistance
There is indeed significant value in that collection.
I suggest you get Mike Barker of the BVWS to organise selling it for you. See http://www.bvws.org.uk/auctions/index.htm |

Re: Radio Sale Assistance
The CT 501 is a Wobbulator, and yes there is a lot of value in some of the items, If you watch ebay many of them come up for sale. There is often an AR88 or RA17 on sale. selling on ebay can be difficult and the price made fluctuates wildly! even for similar items. Mike Barker is a good starting point for the BVWS auctions and there are some lists of the results of previous auction sales on the BVWS site. Study other sales, take your time and don't flood the market.
There are also Radio Rallies, if you haven't heard of them they are a bit like car boot sales, with radios and electronic junk replacing the Pots, pans, and old shoes. see http://www.southgatearc.org/rallies/ You will need to have researched your prices beforehand. Hmmm, My main interest is in vintage Broadcast television cameras, if you find any of those in the loft?? and a secondary interest in aircraft radio from the 1950s. Hope this helps and good luck Brian S www.tvcameramuseum.org |

Re: Radio Sale Assistance
As GMB said, or implied,
the best way of selling it is certainly by auction and the BVWS is the only regular auction specialising in vintage radios/equipment. There are certainly some interesting items there. (I feel a pain in the wallet coming on!) |

Re: Radio Sale Assistance
Hi,
Thank you all for your replies; and for those who have emailed with offers of advice and assistance. I think my mother and I are at the beggining of a long journey, where we will learn quite a lot....! I intend to do a bit of research tonight, where possible, to ascertain a suitable value for each item. ttfn, Andy |
