Question Dynatron SRX30D: connecting to other hifi units

Hello

I am new to forums and have very little knowledge about vintage audio equipment so hopefully this makes some sense!

I have a Dynatron Cavalcade SRX 30D connected to some pretty decent Dynatron speakers. I also have another hifi system made up of a modern Bush amp and a mix of other old/vintage separates (radio and CD player) with a separate set of speakers.

I would like to connect this up as one system so that I no longer have 2 sets of speakers cluttering up the living room and would prefer to keep the Dynatron ones.

Having done a bit of research I'm hopeful that I may be able to use the 5pin DIN tape socket to connect the other separates to the Dynatron but I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

Forgive me, bit I can't see why you might want to do this?
There is already a record deck, tuner/amplifier and cassette in your Dynatron. You can readily play you CD player via the Dynatron's DIN input as well.
Adding a second (inferior sounding) system only substitutes what you already have in the one Dynatron cabinet. However, if this is your wish, you will need to connect 8 ohm "dummy loads" to your other stereo amplifier speaker output sockets if you are to run this without having any speakers connected.

If the Bush amp is "modern" why would dummy loads be needed?

Is what you're trying to do to use the Bush amp as a connection point to feed the other odds and ends into then take its tape output to the Dynatron to use as the main amplifier and speaker setup?

Thanks Edward. So I could connect the CD unit via the DIN socket as an input? Is there a way to connect the separate radio unit at the same time? It's just that the Dynatron tuner doesn't have FM. I suppose as a work around I could just switch in the one I want to use at the time...

This sounds like it might be an option if it's possible? It certainly seems like it makes more sense to input the other units to the Dynatron.

Are these options just a simple case of getting the right cables?

Thank you both for your help!

Hi,
There should be an FM Tuner in the Dynatron though, pre-sets for the stations I think, or does this not work?
Steve.

Ah! I didn't realise the presets were FM, I just need to figure out to set them then. Thanks Steve, as you can tell I really am no expert!

You will need an aerial for FM even if it is just a simple wire dipole.

Thanks Frank. What would you call this type of aerial socket? I'm trying to search for one online.

If it’s the type I remember Dynatron used it will be like this.

Yes, Dynatron certainly used the 2 pin 300 ohm aerial connector on the units I've had. You can either use a cheap ribbon antenna in good signal areas or you would need a small transformer (sometimes called a Balun) to connect it to a standard roof aerial.

Does anyone know where I could find a copy of the manual so that I can figure out how to set the pre-sets? Or even better just know how to set the pre-sets!

Well just push the first preset control in and turn it to get the desired radio station - and then do the same for the other four to select further stations. No need for a manual. Simples!

A photo of the control panel may help jog someone’s memory, I cannot find a user manual on line.
