Honeywell 2040 and 2050 mainframes
I just wondered if anybody here programmed these mainframes - I did as a trainee programmer - how times have changed LOL.

Sorry, I was an IBM man (360, 370 etc). I spent fifteen years with them.

Re: Honeywell 2040 and 2050 mainframes
We had ICL 1900's, 2900's and 3900's. We now use a Fujitsu/ICL Trimetra Nova with Open VME 5 (I think) which I think is pretty much a 3900 in a small package and by another name...
We also used ICL DRS-20s and DRS-300s in the mini-computer dept. A non-IT-literate friend of mine still uses ICL Super-Word on an ancient (and huge) DRS-20 model 50 without the slightest hint of irony! Mike. |

Re: Honeywell 2040 and 2050 mainframes
I programmed the Honeywell L66 and 6600 mainframes starting in the early 1980s, though to the mid 1990s. They used a 36 bit word and the assembler language was called GMAP. These mainframes were upgraded to DPS-8 and then DPS-90, a derivative of a compatible mainframe from NEC. Honeywell was taken over by Groupe Bull (a French company) in the 1990s and they we then known as Honeywell-Bull.

Re: Honeywell 2040 and 2050 mainframes
Hi Glenn, my career also inclued a 6040 and various other GCOS mainframes through to DPS9000. I used COBOL 68 with IDS and TDS then COBOL 74, IDSII, TP and also some GMAP.
Those were the days! Regards. Eamonn |

Re: Honeywell 2040 and 2050 mainframes
Glen,
I also worked on Honeywell L66/20 & DPS 440 mainframes in Sydney. I'm trying to remember details on a monitoring package that was available for the systems. I'm sure it came from DOD in the US but the name escapes me. Any clues? |

What do you mean by monitoring package? A transaction monitor such as TDS or TP ?
