Military Quartz Crystals & Their Markings etc.
Hi. I'm tring to figure out what the markings mean on some vintage Air Ministry quartz crystals I have.
Okay, let's start with these markings: * L/8512 (8512 is the frrequency in Khz, but what does L stand for?) * ADR/HH (?) * A/6750 (?) * R.N.Q.C.O. Risley (?) * ADH/LJ (?) Thanks. Rich |

Risley was "H.M.S. Gosling" during and immediately after WWII.

Re Risley, that's an interesting place. It was also the location of one of the big Royal Ordnance factories during WWII; according to Wiki, that's where they filled the explosive in to the Grand Slam bomb. Subsequently, it became a very important but 'low-profile' part of Britain's nuclear programme alongside Harwell. Much of what is left of Britain's nuclear engineering capacity is still there.

Re: Military Quartz Crystals & Their Markings etc.
I contacted Fleet Air Arm Association on Facebook. They came back with a link to a group about WAFU. But the link does not work for me. Wonder what others get. Here is the link:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1899...c_location=ufi Cannot seem to find a group on Facebook that is WAFU, who are apparantly "members of all Trades of Air Engineering". Last edited by radiozero; 11th May 2018 at 9:40 am. |

I have a crystal with marking ADR/JUL/60. So, my suspicion is that HH is a date code in ADR/HH. But cannot see how. Crystal definitely not made in 1988.

RNQCO is possibly Royal Navy Quartz Crystal Office?

As to a marking, 10A I think that is RAF issue and 10X RN issue.

Perhaps RNQCO is Royal Navy Quality Control Office.
