Open frame style lamp
I picked up this light from eBay last week, and it is of a type I have not seen before. It's marked Davenset and is unusual in that the battery is completely exposed. Looks good and works well and nothing really to go wrong as the switch is a rugged slide type.
Anyone here used one of these before? Where were they sold? |

Re: Open frame style lamp
Davenset made battery chargers amongst other things. nice lamp, looks like a railway lamp without the case.

I like it, unlikely to have corrosion problems as any leakage will dry up in short order. Perhaps a wet cell lead acid was available so you could see the hygrometer balls/dial.

Reminds me of an accumulator carrier.

Re: Open frame style lamp
Thanks for the input. Looking at those links I realise I have the wrong bulb fitted. I have 0.15 Ampere when it should be 0.3 Ampere. I have a vintage Mazda lamp in my collection and fitted that. Much better.

Re: Open frame style lamp
If you're not using it as a searchlight stick with the lower current bulb for longer battery life!
If you are, get an LED upgrade bulb with the same benefit anyway...... If it's a display piece, by all means fit an original type bulb.

Re: Open frame style lamp
Following those links above, it seems there are people who collect tanks like we collect radios
I guess the lack of a case on the lamp was a weight-saving measure to improve the tank's mpg by a bit... |

Re: Open frame style lamp
What I did for this one was to empty out all the flat cells out of the pack and rebuild it with high density foam and a holder for Eneloop batteries in 3x3 configuration. This means I can charge the pack with my hobby charger without getting it apart each time plus I will get about 20 hours per charge. Guilt free lumens!

Re: Open frame style lamp
Interesting looking unit that one, definitely not a type I've seen before.
