Default RGD 925 receiver.

I was given this set which appears to have quite a few special features.

I would be interested to hear any opinions regarding the performance. TIA

I can't help you with regards to performance, but a mystic eye has got to be at least twice as good as a magic one!

Good luck with the restoration.

The term "Mystic Eye" was in common useage Pre-War. My Father always called them that - even an EM87! The set you have is very rare now. It's unusual to find 2 Triodes in PP in a table set. I suspect that the same chassis was also used in a Radiogram version.

Not much on it online. The valve lineup may be interesting, particularly the push-pull triode pair

Service data available from

Good luck

I am more interested in sets with a tuned RF amplifier, so I will examine it to see if
the non-functional tuning drive can be fixed. Fortunately this set does not have
motorised tuning unlike some RGDs.

My father had an RGD Model 625 table radio from 1936. I understand that the early sets had a "mystic eye" and later this was changed to a "magic eye" I am not sure how the mystic one worked but I have a dim recollection of our set that the tuning indicator had a four lobed green display which closed the bright lobes together with increasing signal strength.

I've been looking at the service sheets for this: never mind that mystic eye, just look at those push-pull Mullard ACO42's!

This is a seriously desirable set and l love the fact that it looks like a 1920's club armchair...

Jealous? Me?

There's an rgd 718 going up for auction today/tomorrow - W&H Peacock Cambridgeshire (no affiliation) - in case you fancy one
