8 Track Cartridge Foam Pressure Pad See Through Tape
Am wondering what the function is of the see through tape that is fitted to front side of the pressure pads, which makes contact with the back side of the tape.
I have brought 2 different repair kits, in one the new foam pressure pads have the see through tape fitted, in the other kit there is no tape fitted. Is the tape for ensuring a smooth tape movement over the pressure pads or is it to help stop the pressure pads falling apart when old or for another reason, bottom line is, is it important that tape is fitted ? Re: 8 Track Cartridge Foam Pressure Pad See Through Tape
It is to prevent the lubrication on the tape from rubbing off as much as possible.
But, as you say, there are some carts that come with felt pads mounted on a metal spring type clip that have no such covering. They do seem to stop the disintegrated foam from getting rubbed into the cart, which is good. I think my preferred supplier seems to send what, I think, may be draught excluder type material. Seems to work though.

Thank you Martin. Now you mention it, I think I had heard that before but like many other things I had forgotten
