I have a couple of Bad Boys but they are in a totally different league to this unit.

The one pictured is by Griffin and George so Probably designed for use in education.

The coil is just over 8" long (210mm)

The others are still packed and likely to remain that way for some time to come.

Cheers

There's a good story behind it.

I found it in an antiques emporium ( AKA junk and tat shop ), and just had to have it. £20 and it was mine !.

There is a patent number, and a huge amount of internet research ( not so easy back in 2006 ) led me to the Grandson of the inventor, who is now the MD of the company.

They now make TENS machines, the modern equivalent of these shocking machines.

One detail on that larger induction coil is that the on-off switch is usually done as a rotating barrel type with a centre off position and two ons

It's actually a commutator, and the two on positions have opposite polarities. These come into play when using asymmetrically shaped electrodes.

Coincidently I contacted EMS in September with a similar enquiry.
In my case it was to try and identify the floor-standing console electrotherapy machine that stood in our front room, then my dad's treatment room when he was a physiotherapist in the mid to late 1950s.

James very kindly replied and although he couldn't help with my specific questions, he sent me this old catalogue picture

Perhaps my dad's machine was the white one with two meters towards the left of the picture, it's hard to tell.
