Re: Cord braiding machine
Coool!
Santa, I want one. Seems to be a £30 item, Argos have then and on the ebay. Refilling kits extra. Used to bobbin knit when I was a kid. Last edited by Boater Sam; 8th Dec 2018 at 12:54 pm. Reason: Added |

Re: Cord braiding machine
You can use an empty cotton reel with four panel pins...

Re: Cord braiding machine
Yes but it takes ages and you generally use just one thread (you can use four, as many as the panel pins). I take it that the reels on this machine do their Maypole-like dance around the centre? I'm thinking you may be able to use more exotic threads, like Nomex, to make up braided cables!

Re: Cord braiding machine
I also wonder how well the cotton-reel technique works with modern plastic cotton reels - i.e. how well the panel pins stay in place.

Re: Cord braiding machine
My late nan called this french knitting and I remember as a wee boy back in the 1960s being shown how it was done with a wooden cotton reel and 4 pins.
If you google "french knitting" there is a mass of stuff including various machines. Terry

Re: Cord braiding machine
If you used as low a number of reels as possible (3?) of fine thread, maybe it could be used to make cotton covered enamel copper wire for wave winding.

Re: Cord braiding machine
Would this be any cheaper than just purchasing Vintage Braided Cable on ebay etc?
which is about £2.30 per metre, cheapest I've seen it. |
