To aviod any confusion, the Garrard model AT5 autochanger in your DERAM record player is based on the Garrard "Autoslim" chassis and referred to Post #2.
You should be able to service the deck as advised by just removing the platter with no need to remove the whole deck.

If going to the trouble of removing the platter and cam gear then why not do the mechanics under the deck as well?
Take pictures, remove part, more pictures, remove next part etc... clean all parts and re-lube where needed (do not lube where you didn't see grease originally) then work in reverse using the pictures.
If it all looks too daunting then just do the cam and trip pawl for now.
Gaz.

For future reference - if your Deram cartridge needs a new stylus - don't go for a generic 'replacement' - they are awful - too stiff to perform properly. The original styli are strangely 'floppy' but they work well.

They are a bit thin on the ground these days but not impossible to find. For reference her's a pic of an original - note the pale blue colour - most 'replacements' are darker. https://www.redbubble.com/people/wil...a-deram-stylus

The floppiness is the core of the design - by partially decoupling the stylus tip from the generator compliance, the effective tip mass and hence record wear is reduced.

Thanks Ted - I must try to stop using these arcane technical terms! ISTR the old Deram was regarded as a bit of a triumph for ceramic cartridges back in the day? Lowish output - around 80 mV?

Default DECCA DERAM 205 PROBLEM update

Hi ,
My Deram 205 had an arm resistance problem and the advice i got was to grease the gears, however i removed the turntable and it was well greased and fresh and clean.
so i examined it more closely and noticed that the when you switch to reject, the pin/spindle at the rear of the arm did not raise to move the arm up. so i jolted the sensor a few times and totally freed up the arm but NOW the arm dosen't work as a part of the autochanger ie.you can switch the lever to reject but it won't budge unless you lift the arm manually onto the LP
has anyone some advice as to how to fix it?
many thanks

You were advised to free up the trip pawl for your original fault. Have you done that?

Yes, I took the turntable off and examined the gears and they were very clean and the grease was fluid not dark and dirty

Suggest you ensure that there is no grease on the trip pawl and follow the advice already given - "examined the gears" suggests no intervention has been made. As previously advised, your Garrard AT5 autochanger is based on the Garrard Autoslim and the Stickies above contain full details on servicing this.

Yes did all as suggested now, but the arm won't lift or move even though you hear clicks as the turntable rotates.
