Default Uher report 4000 reel to reel recorder

I was getting ready to put away my uher 4000 reel to reel, but i was bothered when the speed kept fluctuating, so i changed the 2000 UF capacitor and 1000 UF capacitor. Well after that the amplifier section quit working and the speed has been really slow, 7 1/2 ips is more like 3 3/4.
Anyone familiar with these recorders?

DO NOT!!!! replace the 2000uF capacitor with a 2200uF or anything else, i tried that and found alot of problems, as soon as i doubled up on 1000uF capacitors and removed the 2200uF i had inserted the recorder went back to working properly and sounds very good.
All of the speed issues solved, no problems now!

Weird. The tolerances on electrolytics is often +50%/-10% so that a 2000µF capacitor can be 3000µF and still be within spec. I wonder what's so special about the original 2000µF capacitor?

I would suggest that the 2200uF capacitor was faulty or incorrectly installed.

Mis-installed or faulty capacitors would be my thinking as well. A typical "2000µF" capacitor with no stated tolerance could be anything from 1800µF to 3000µF.

Just for interest's sake, is your Uher the early 2-head or the later 3-head version?

It is the 2 head version, and no the capacitor checked out fine, i ended up using it on another machine. Funny huh?

No. Just inexplicable.
