Challenging fault !
Hi all
Thought I would share this with you Every now and again we get a fault which drives us mad ! This is a corker It's a tranny radio Ferguson 3108 Fault was after recap MW ok LW not What was odd on LW there was rf coming through but it was at the top end of MW about 1.4 MHz in a band spread type of effect ( would have been useful when 208 Luxembourg was around ! ) After spending far too much time checking all the wiring ,switches etc I found the fault .It was L1a (connected to R4 ) .When I reverse connected the coil it all came good ! The only reason I tried reversing the coils was I remembered a thread on this forum about a similar problem .Thank you whoever you are ,you saved my sanity It looked as if it had been made like that .Maybe the original owner never used it on LW ! Hmmm the problem seems to be all the electrons are falling out because its all upside down

Inoperative LW ex factory is quite a common fault. Some parts of the country had strong MW transmitters for the Light Programme (notably London) and radios were never used on LW in these areas.
Most of them disappeared with the launch of R1 in 1967, though the London one continued into the 90s I believe. |

Nah, you're all wrong, its the long waves are too big to fit through the coil. When you reverse it they fly round the outside better. ( all tongue in cheek of course ) Sam.

Well spotted, Pete. Sometimes with this type of fault - more correctly a mal-assembly from new - I wonder whether it was deliberately done by a disgruntled assembly worker, trying to get one over on the final test department.
