Lafayette HE-30
I just dragged this out of the garden shed , cleaned it up a bit slowly wound up the variac , and she works . The Manual says K340 but looked this up and the model KT-340 is the same radio but was offered in a kit form , the manual shows stages of build and the builders tick marks in stages of build . This is really well built and easy to follow no transistors or chips in there a credit to old vintage radios and the next door neighbour who built it 1961.

Re: Lafayette HE-30
This looks identical to a Trio receiver I bought second hand in the early eighties.

Re: Lafayette HE-30
I bought one new £25-£30 region in around 1966, it was not a world beater but it did the job for me until something better became within financial reach. It’s worst failing was LO drift which was never completely cured, good enough for AM, not so good for SSB. The LO must have had some harmonics in the LO, the 3 BBC VHF stations good be heard on the highest frequency band of the radio.

Re: Lafayette HE-30
I believe this is similar to the Trio 9R59 ie no DE or DS suffix.

Re: Lafayette HE-30
I still have one labelled KT-320 and it still works. I also have the original assembly manual with a sticker over the old address now showing the new Lafayette Radio Electronics Corp. at 111 Jericho Turnpike, Syosset L I New York.
I guess it dates from about 1963/64. I must agree with the previous comments about SSB performance! Orakle42 |

Re: Lafayette HE-30
Hi
Hornton's Electronics in Birmingham sold the HE30 for £12 in the early 60's The strange thing was that they also offered 'easy payments' which worked out cheaper than the cash price! Kind regards Dave |

Re: Lafayette HE-30
The Lafayette HE-30 is known under a lot of names and was sold from 1960-61, in Sweden we could buy it either as Trio 9R59 or Lafayette HE30. check this link:
