35 at last count all being run from a pair of Aurori on channel 1 and 9 (London) , next time I am at Dulwich , I will have a count up and list them here , it has just increased by one as I returned the prewar Murphy A56V yesterday and that can be seen working at the museum now now.
we are now up to nearly 100 working television sets and we must have about 30 405 sets working , all supplied from a custom aerial system put together by Jeffrey Borinsky the heart of with as another pair of "Aurori" on Channel "1" and "9" as london would have been - we even have a working E M I set top box down converting "ITA" to "BBC" to feed one of our Pye d16ts and it works very well.

Yes, that's exactly it, without the Philips or even a Stella badge. It gives a great picture!

All is currently unplugged at the moment but in theory:

A) 4 sets, 2 of which dual standard, 1 of which colour. Others might work but those were all up to spec last time they were used.

B) BBC / Pye CO6/501 analogue line-store converter

C) Herts.

Although, none of the sets are at home now. When I had the CTV25 and BRC1400 in use in the living room and bedroom respectively, they were normally used for viewing 625, although I could play back pre-converted tapes on a modified 3V00 VCR.

I continue to be impressed by the range of converters being used, including now a Pineapple and a BBC/Pye CO6/501, along with another Domino and a further 13 Aurorae since I last summarised.

Darryl or others may correct me, but I believe about 500 Auroras have been supplied so far. This has been a huge influence in 'popularising' the hobby and we have Darryl Hock to thank for this.

Earlier on, I nearly included my home-constructed "Argus" in my own list of sets but then remembered I had now converted it to run on 120/180/240 lines. Again, this was made easy by the use of Darryl's WC-01 Converter. If Darryl reads this, I wonder if he has any 405 sets over in the States?

I stand corrected. See HERE. It seems it is 700. Some people will have used more than one in their installations, or for another purpose (as I have), but nevertheless this figure must bear some relationship to the number of working sets.

Thanks for the great response.

Unless someone says otherwise, I'll give this another 24 hours before totting everything up: Sunday afternoon.

The final counts will appear here. They will be both for sets and for owners and will include the contributions from three vintage radio boards (thank you!). I'll have a shot at a location map too. There will be an 'estimated' additional count included in the figures to cover undeclared collections and previous customers of mine.

Again, thank you to all those who have contributed.

405 lives! (396 more than a cat? )

Two more to add:

A 1951 Vidor CN4208, subject of a restoration write-up in 2007;

A 1963 dual-standard Baird 630 which was used not only to view the closedown of 405 lines in 1985, but also its return to the airwaves for the BHTG test transmissions from Stanmore in 2011. I still have the "channel 4½" H aerial, although no longer on the roof!

Aurora converter and a Ferguson 3V44 VCR which makes excellent 405 line recordings.

Location: Goffs Oak, Herts.

Sony 9-90UB + Aurora + HDMI2AVI + PC or PS4 or Freeview tuner.

Hoping to get a KB RV10 up and running and looking out for more 405 line sets to use regularly.
