Swan Mayfair CH480 percolator
Does anyone know how the button on the front works?
Many thanks Steve |

Re: Swan Mayfair CH480 percolator
I would hazard a guess at it being a reset for an overheat cutout. So you do nothing unless you run the thing without water, then have to press to reset.

Someone with a current online auction listing describes it thus:
"A quite advanced model in its day with a manual on/off cut-off switch to the front" However, I would expect it to be a boil-dry protection cutout.

Re: Swan Mayfair CH480 percolator
Our '70s percolator reached an orgasmic frenzy as it near-boiled, then appeared to switch the element to a low-power setting that just kept the brew hot, so I would expect another thermo-switch in addition to the safety cut-out.
Let's see what Martin says.

Re: Swan Mayfair CH480 percolator
There's nothing posh like that on these, just the 400-watt element and the safety cutout.
You simply unplug it after it has been percolating for a few minutes. Adjust the time by trial-and-error according to taste and coffee blend, and enjoy the coffee before it goes cold! |
