Default Hmv 2126

Got a slightly interesting tranny on the bench at the moment. It's a HMV 2126 with VHF and 208 Luxembourg bandspread. It seems to be somewhat difficult to find any direct references to this set. The 2126 model comes up as a record player. As far as I can tell after poking about nearby model numbers, it's the same internally as the 2130 but has a padded black plastic case rather than a wood one. If you zoom in on the battery location the 2126 model reference is just about clear enough to see.

Anyway, at the moment it's taking far too much idle current and the audio amp board is out for investigation. It's full of ACxxx Mazda types.

The output stage is slightly unusual- the o/p transformer is a centre tapped choke and the speaker is a 25R job connected across it between the output collectors. Bean counting?

Edit: just tried a search on here... looks like it's been identified before, and no t so long ago, either!

Default Re: Hmv 2126

Got this sorted now. Audio output device problems fixed by brute force replacement of two AC154s and an AC169 bias compensator with a pair of BD136s and a couple of bias resistors. Not particularly elegant but decidedly bombproof compared to the original! I tried just siliconizing the original circuit but gave up and settled for simple.

It's probably on borrowed time- the AF117s in the IF were already screen snipped when it arrived, but that can be S.E.P. (HHGTTG ref there....)
