Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
And what about the rotary button/push button?
Is there 2 models of this button? I think that there is only one model, and is a rubber and the metal washer with Rev/mc that is a push button. Does anyone have a photo of the rotary button and it’s interior? |

I've personally never seen anything later than yours having the rotary switch. I don't know why it existed over the push button as usually anything to do with the military had specified non latching.

Post #1952 in the survey thread shows one with the switch you are talking about.

Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
Ok, i think i now understand. There are 2 push buttons REV/MC, the baquelite one that we find in AVO 8 (mk1) Photo 1, the one like mine that is made of rubber and a washer (photo 2) and the rotary one that Refugee said (photo 3).
If this is correct, perhaps Richards page is wrong Photo 4 Last edited by Guest; 19th Jan 2019 at 1:05 am. |

Those photos are tiny.
The button on the 9MK4 is different again. |

Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
What puzzles me is why some of the military ones have this large more complicated pushbutton.
I have not had hands on one of these but thought it was a latching button - push on push off forward reverse. I will amend page if necessary.

Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
Yes, it is a "normal" push button, do not know why with this rubber and washer, i do not understand.
I attached a photo of the push system, you can see that it is the conventional pushing system, same as others Avo 8 mk2 etc Photo 3 Today, i repair the broken screw that fix the battery cover. I introduced a brass nut and now i am very satisfied with the results. Photo 1 and 2 Last edited by Guest; 19th Jan 2019 at 1:39 pm. |

Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
Thank you everyone for clarifying the push button types. I have amended the description as follows but if anyone has the appropriate army reference (probably ZD.....) please advise.
This one is the same as the model 8 Mk1 except that it is fitted with an extended metal push button with rubber boot to reverse the moving coil. This type of pushbutton was used on some miitary versions but not all and some if not all have a steel outer casing with an earthing terminal. These instruments preceded the Test Set No.1 (see below) which has ranges in multiples of 1 and 3 like the model 9 rather than 1 and 2.5 of the model 8

Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
So it is an 8S (MK1) Admiralty Pattern (AP12945) with a tag "A.S.R.E." (Admiralty Signal and Radar Establishment 1948 to 1959).And with a sticker from Navy Department.
So, can any body give any information about the label in the photo that was attached to the handle? See photo. Thanks Aitor Eneko Last edited by Guest; 19th Jan 2019 at 7:23 pm. |

Re: New (for me) Avo 8 (Mk1) Air Ministry Panclimatic
..Only that the label must be 1953 or later, due to the ER (Queen Elizabeth II) printed on it.

I finished it. Painted with the same colour, with the battery cover. Just waiting a new movement.
